Lifestyle Photography at RHS Rosemoor
I recently photographed a visitor attraction lifestyle photography shoot at RHS Rosemoor, capturing families exploring the Wind in the Willows garden adventure trail.
The trail brings Kenneth Grahame’s classic story to life through a series of interactive installations placed throughout the gardens. Families follow the route while discovering games, storytelling boards and playful activities inspired by the characters from the book.
From a photography perspective, this type of environment is ideal for lifestyle photography. Rather than staging moments, families naturally explore the space, interact with the activities and experience the trail together. That’s exactly the type of imagery visitor attractions need for marketing – real people genuinely enjoying the experience.
Throughout the shoot, I captured children discovering the trail, throwing beanbags at woodland games, spinning activity wheels and climbing into the boat installation. These moments are authentic and spontaneous, which is why lifestyle photography works so well for attractions and tourism experiences.

Capturing Real Family Experiences Through Lifestyle Photography
When photographing families in environments like this, the goal is to capture genuine interaction rather than control every moment.
Children explore naturally. They run ahead to the next activity, pause to read a story board, or suddenly become completely absorbed in something they’ve discovered. Those reactions create the most engaging photographs because they feel real.
For visitor attractions, lifestyle photography helps potential visitors imagine themselves in the space. Instead of simply showing the location, the images show how the experience actually feels. Families exploring woodland trails, discovering installations and enjoying time together outdoors tells a much stronger story than empty location shots.
Rosemoor is particularly well suited to this style of photography. The woodland areas, winding paths and open garden spaces create natural movement through the environment while still providing visually interesting backgrounds for photographs.

Visitor Attraction Lifestyle Photography for Interactive Trails
Interactive trails like the Wind in the Willows adventure are designed to encourage exploration. From a photography point of view, that creates the perfect opportunity to capture a variety of moments as families move through the experience.
Some moments happen quickly. Children racing ahead to the next activity or laughing as they try one of the games.
Others are quieter. Families stopping to read part of the story together or discovering a hidden detail along the trail.
Capturing that range of interaction is important for attractions because it shows the full experience. Marketing images need to communicate discovery, engagement and enjoyment, helping potential visitors understand what they can expect from the day.
Lifestyle photography allows that story to unfold naturally rather than forcing staged moments.

Photographing Creative Workshops at Visitor Attractions
Alongside the outdoor trail, I also photographed the Wind in the Willows craft workshop.
These sessions give children the chance to slow down after exploring the trail and get creative with themed craft activities inspired by the story. During the session I captured children making bookmarks and decorations connected to the characters from the book.
Workshops like this are a valuable part of the visitor experience. They provide a different pace to the day and allow families to spend time creating something together.
From a photography perspective, they also add variety to the final image set. Outdoor imagery shows exploration and movement, while the workshop environment creates quieter moments of concentration and creativity. Together, they tell a more complete story of the visitor experience.

Visitor Attraction and Tourism Lifestyle Photography
Over the past 15 years, I’ve photographed a wide range of tourism experiences, events and visitor attractions across the UK.
My work regularly involves capturing real experiences for organisations that need authentic imagery for marketing campaigns, websites and social media. Rather than staged photography, the focus is always on genuine interaction between visitors and the environment around them.
Projects like this shoot at RHS Rosemoor demonstrate how lifestyle photography can bring a visitor experience to life. Showing families actively exploring the trail helps potential visitors connect with the experience and imagine themselves doing the same.
For attractions, heritage sites and tourism organisations, this kind of photography helps communicate atmosphere, scale and engagement in a way that traditional location photography often can’t.
