Professional PR photography for press and media
PR photography isn’t about volume or heavily styled imagery – it’s about delivering clean, accurate visuals that work immediately for press and media use.
For this McDonald’s restaurant opening in Hertfordshire, I worked alongside a PR agency to produce a press-ready image set covering the opening before the restaurant opened to the public. The photography was required for media distribution, online news coverage, and wider PR activity, all delivered on the same day.
As a PR photographer and press photographer, the focus is always on usability. Images need to be well-composed, brand-safe, and flexible enough to work across press releases, news sites, and social platforms without further processing.

The brief for the McDonald’s restaurant opening
The brief focused on capturing a complete visual story of the opening, suitable for editorial and PR use. Coverage included:
- Exterior images of the restaurant and branding
- Ribbon cutting with key stakeholders
- Franchisee portraits and interactions
- Staff members in action
- Interior features and overall look and feel
All photography was captured before the restaurant opened to the public to ensure the images were clean, controlled, and suitable for press publication.
This type of brief is typical for corporate PR photography, where accuracy, consistency, and speed matter as much as the images themselves.

Same-day delivery for press photography
One of the most important elements of PR photography is turnaround time. Press teams often work to tight schedules, and images frequently need to be distributed within hours of an event.
For this shoot, the final image set was edited and delivered on the same day, ready for immediate use by the PR team. Images were supplied in both high-resolution and low-resolution formats, making them suitable for:
- Online news outlets
- Press releases
- Social media
- Internal communications
Same-day delivery is often what determines whether coverage lands at all, which is why it’s a core part of my PR photography workflow.

Working with PR agencies and corporate clients
Photographing a McDonald’s restaurant opening involves more than documenting an event. It requires an understanding of brand guidelines, PR workflows, and the internal process for reviewing and approving images.
When working as a press photographer, my role is to make the process as straightforward as possible for agencies and brands by delivering imagery that is:
- On-brand and consistent
- Cleared for press use
- Easy to distribute
- Ready for immediate publication
This allows PR teams to focus on media relationships and messaging, knowing the photography is handled professionally.

Why brands use professional PR photographers
Brands and agencies rely on experienced PR photographers because press imagery has very specific requirements. Images must be accurate, representative, and suitable for multiple platforms without risk.
Professional PR photography provides:
- Consistent visual storytelling
- Clear representation of people and spaces
- Media-ready files that meet editorial standards
- Reliable delivery under time pressure
For corporate clients and national brands, reliability and experience are just as important as the final images.
